Child safety
Zap Live, the video app published by ZapLive Limited, does not tolerate any form of sexual exploitation or abuse of minors. This page sets out what is banned, how we protect people under 18, how to report and what we do. The rules apply to everything that goes through Zap Live: posts, comments, profiles, sounds, messages and calls.
What is banned
On Zap Live the following are banned, always and without exception:
- posting, sending, requesting or pointing to where to find material showing the sexual abuse of minors, including drawings and images created or altered with artificial intelligence;
- any content that sexualises a minor, even without nudity;
- approaching a minor for sexual purposes: asking them for intimate photos or videos, proposing to meet them, sending them sexual content, or winning their trust in order to do so;
- blackmailing a minor, for example by threatening to spread images of them;
- trafficking and exploitation of minors, and content that promotes or justifies them.
This applies even if the person doing it is a minor themselves, and even if the minor seems to agree.
How we protect people under 18
Accounts can't be created by anyone under 14, or under the higher age required by the law of the country they sign up from. The automatic check blocks explicit nudity before a post is shown to others. The rules below apply to anyone under 18, the same ones as in the terms of use: those on messages, calls, groups, coins and live videos are enforced by Zap Live's server, not just by the app.
Until you're 18, Zap Live works in a more protected way. «Friends» means people you follow who follow you back, as long as neither of you has blocked the other.
- Aged 14 to 15: no private messages, calls or groups; your posts don't appear in For You, but they stay on your profile, in Following and in search; only friends can comment on your posts, and others can't download them.
- Aged 16 to 17: messages and calls only with friends, and only a friend can add you to a group; at first only friends can comment on your posts and others can't download them, but you can change this.
- For everyone under 18: the account starts out private, and you can make it public; from 22:00 to 07:00 you don't get notifications on your phone, not even for calls, and you'll find them in your Inbox; Screen time starts with a reminder after 60 minutes a day, which you can change; you can't go live, and coins, tips and subscriptions aren't available, whether for giving or receiving; ads are only non-personalised ones.
If your account dates from before we asked for date of birth and you haven't given it to us yet, the rules for 14- and 15-year-olds apply until you enter it.
How to report
From the app: on a post, a comment, a profile or a chat, choose «Report» and the reason «Child safety». When you report a chat you can attach the last 5 messages: they're end-to-end encrypted, and unless you attach them we can't read them.
Without the app: write to info@zaplive.app with «Child safety» in the subject line, saying where the content is (the link to the post, or the username) and what you saw. Never send us the material itself, or a copy or a screenshot of it: just tell us where it is.
If a minor is in immediate danger, call 112 straight away, or the emergency number in your country. You can also report directly to the Italian Polizia Postale (https://www.commissariatodips.it) and to NCMEC, the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (https://report.cybertip.org); in other countries you can find the national reporting hotline at https://www.inhope.org.
What we do
When we find material of this kind, or it's reported to us:
- we remove it straight away, for everyone;
- we close the account of whoever posted or sent it, the first time and without notice, and they can't open another one;
- we keep the content and the account data, without showing them to anyone, only to hand them over to the authorities;
- we report it to the Polizia Postale and to NCMEC, and we cooperate with the authorities investigating it.
We do the same when we find out that someone is trying to groom or blackmail a minor.
The contact person
The contact person for child safety is Sufyan Arif, on behalf of ZapLive Limited, which publishes Zap Live. They respond to the authorities and to Google Play about Zap Live's practices against the sexual exploitation and abuse of minors, and about how these rules are followed. They can be contacted at info@zaplive.app, in Italian or English.
